Why So Driven With The Writing?

A friend asked me the other day why I was suddenly so VERY driven to complete an entire series of books before we leave Australia.

Short answer — I don’t know how reliable our internet connection is going to be when we first arrive back in the UK for a short visit with family — and then we head on to France.

Also, since I am truly ‘out of the closet’ now about all of the psychic encounters throughout my life, these books will hopefully be a sort of printed ‘calling card’ or multi-page business card that lets people know who we are BEFORE we arrive. And who knows — that up-front attitude may open some new doors that we could never have imagined.

That’s where my intentions and manifestations are aimed right now!

The latest book — Acts Of Intention — went live 45 hours ago. So from now on I will refer you to my AUTHORS PAGE at deborahharmes.com where I will update the BOOKS page each time there is something new in both PRINT and EBOOK versions.

Book-ish Things

Happy to report that things are going quite nicely since the book launch. But being a self-published author does have challenges, and those include spreading the word and trying to create an interest in buying and reading it.

It’s quite delightful when I discover that someone has read the book and given it a sparkling review. And another wonderful bonus is having fellow authors who help to publicise my book on their own websites.

Today I would like to thank Kim Petyt, a Parisian wedding planner who publishes a PaperLi online journal called le monde according to kim petyt. Thank you, Kim!

Back to work I go. I’m doing the first revisions of the NEXT book in the series. Back soon!

NEW Book – Gifts Of Ash And Sorrow by Deborah Harmes – Available NOW!

I am thrilled to announce that my latest book, Gifts of Ash and Sorrow, is now available in both PRINT and E-Book versions. This is the FIRST of 3 books in a trilogy titled The Closet Mystic.

If you are in the USA — simply click on either the image of the PRINT book or the E-BOOK and it will take you straight to the Amazon page for that version of the book.

If you are in the UK — you will find both versions of the books listed at Amazon.co.uk

If you are in CANADA — you will find both versions of the books listed at Amazon.ca

If you are in FRANCE — you will find both versions of the books listed at Amazon.fr

If you are in AUSTRALIA — you will find the EBOOK listed at Amazon.com.au
For now, the PRINT version for any Australian buyers will need to be ordered from either the USA (click HERE) or from the UK (click here). It’s unfortunate that the Amazon site in Australia is not as comprehensive as those in the USA or Australia, but I have no control over that particular aspect of distribution.

I have authorised global distribution, so you will also be able to find these books in any other country that has an Amazon presence.

ENJOY! And keep watching — the 2nd book in this trilogy should be completed rather soon-ish.

Scaling Up and Going Grander

I’m scaling up size wise and going grander with the number of photos included. As a result, the next book will be a bigger and more expensive book. Print books can still be produced quite inexpensively but that is certainly NOT the case for colour photo print books unfortunately!

The book that I am currently editing is evolving into a much larger project than anticipated and I’ve made a few key decisions. As a result, it may or may not be ready for publication prior to Christmas. I’m hoping to be done by the end of this week, but if it ends up being a better product by waiting until after Christmas — then January it is!

The topic this time is France. I had planned to do three regional books on the North of France, the Midi-Pyrenees, and Paris. Now they’re going to all go into ONE LARGE book that has clearly defined sections. And I’ll be offering the print versions in 2 sizes — the small square size that I have used for the previous 3 books and a larger one (shape to be determined). There will of course be ebook formats for various types of tablets/e-readers/computers.

I recently became aware that I had over 18,000 images of France alone in my hard drive. Only a tiny percentage of them will make it into one of my books, but many will instead be placed into more travel articles or lodged with whatever agency I actually do continue to work with. And at some point in the future I plan to offer direct sales of prints. One step at a time though…

Interesting dilemma, eh? Far better to have too much to work with than too little. And for now, here’s one pic that didn’t go into the book. Enjoy!

Momentum In Melbourne

For the last several months, I have been p-a-t-i-e-n-t-l-y (for the most part!) breathing deeply through all of the pre-launch-date stages of presenting some NEW BOOKS to the world. These are the first of a series that I’ll be producing and I will be offering them in both print versions and ebook versions. Also, you’ll have a choice of two types of hardback version or the equally groovy paperback version. And for those of you who just love your iPad, I’ll be creating a downloadable ebook version, too!

In the meantime, in addition to actually creating even more books, I am setting up new pages or sections on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and Pinterest because if you don’t NETWORK like crazy, you aren’t ‘with it’ in the greater scheme of independent marketing. And all of that set-up takes time, too. Thank heavens I have thousands of images to draw upon from our years overseas.

Now — wasn’t that worth waiting for? I’m practically dancing in my chair as I type!

So — here we go…

Do you have older family members who were in Europe during World War II? Parents or grandparents perhaps? Are you a military buff? Are you simply curious about that time period? Then the first of my new books, Echoes Of Place: The Haunting Energy of War in Battlefield France, is for you.

Head Down and Hammering Away

Head down and hammering away has a dual meaning this week. I’ve been head down and hammering away on the keyboard as I worked and head down as the rain and ice hammered away each time I left the house. Thus, I haven’t had much spare time during the last week and my apologies for the lack of posts. But between moving from the beach house in Brehal to a charming stone cottage in Moyon a few days ago and my other ‘tasks’ — it would appear that I’ve been remiss in posting online.

The rain here in Normandy has been a daily event for over two full weeks. This precipitation might be making the farmers and the people who monitor the levels of the aquifers thrilled, but it has spoiled any chance that I’ve had for splendid daytime photographs in this most charming part of France. Atmospheric photos of glossy-rainy reflections are one thing, but exposing my Nikons to gale force winds and horizontal rain mixed with chunky hail is quite another thing altogether!

I’ve managed to get in some good writing time this week on the new travel book though, so yes, progress of some kind has been made even if there is no photo documentation of that. And I’m researching the idea of producing this next book only in e-book format instead of the traditional print version plus e-book. Now that Kindles and iPads are so popular, it seems like a logical next step.

I’ll post more information about the book as it unfolds. And have a happy lead-up-to-Christmas week, everyone!
