Black and White from Ballarat

Just a quick flashback to a walk around the lake in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia in the winter. With the exception of one bizarrely bright bird, absolutely nothing was colourful that day and the wind was icy cold and quite gusty.

I briefly glanced at these when I first took them, but since we were already up to our eyeballs in packing boxes and mess, I didn’t have the energy to devote any time or inspiration to them back in August.

Here I am back in France, happily and cozily parked in front of the fire in December, and now I’m glad I saved these for the right time. Some of these are potential book covers or perfect for doing a matte and frame treatment. I can tell when my heart is happy again because my productivity level just soars. That’s a lovely thing to be able to say at my age!

All of the images in this short photo essay are from Lake Wendouree in Ballarat. Enjoy!

And finally — the ONE SPOT of colour…

Take An Orange Chair And Relax

Yes — I am running behind in the write-up of our 3 day drive from Normandy to the south of France — to the Midi-Pyrenees. So picture yourself sitting down in one of these orange chairs in the seaside village of Brehal in Normandy with the soft spring sun upon your face. Order a cup of coffee of your choice (and it’s France, so there are no strange flavoured syrups — just good strong coffee based on expresso!) and relax. I’ll be back on Sunday to post the first part of our travels from North to South.

Picture Of The Day: What Is This Person?

Is it an allusion to a medieval woman with one of those pointed hats and trailing veil that they wore during those times? Is it an alien with a pointy head? Or is it simply some kind of tribal artwork?

The statue below was spotted in the cobblestone square ringed by shops that lies directly opposite the massive fortified chateau (castle) in Fougeres in northern France. It stood over 6 feet tall and, unfortunately, the shop that was selling it was closed for the day. I guess they trusted that no one would just carry it away overnight.
